The punishing international schedule is a hot topic in cricket, with players swamped with commitments across three different formats.

Test matches, one-day internationals and the advent of T20 cricket has stretched the most sought after players to breaking point - and there are consequences.

Jason Roy is one player who made a decision that cut his playing time but, crucially, allowed him to prioritise something far more important.

The England international stepped back from the IPL in 2024 and he explained why in an exclusive interview on The Edge.

"It was off the back of a long couple of months leading into the IPL, so I'd been away for a while," said Jason.

"Around the time they wanted me to go was over my daughter's birthday. So it was a few things, a few triggers I just wasn't happy with.

"And I made the decision that was going to be more beneficial to me. It was an opportunity to take a step back and just regroup, get some family time."
