"I'm just trying to do the right things more consistently." - Matty Potts
Like all elite athletes, Matty Potts learns from his mistakes.
And when it comes to getting the best out of himself for the benefit of his career, there's been a notable adjustment in the past few years to the way he lives his life.
"I definitely don't drink as much," he told The Edge. "When you have a drink you're constantly wondering, 'Oh, I'm a bit tired today, I feel a little bit heavier than usual. I wonder what it is?' Oh, well, I've had three beers the night before. It's probably not helped.
"You learn from your mistakes in that sense."
Matty's quest for self-improvement goes way beyond cutting out the occasional drink.
"There are all sorts of questions you have to ask yourself," he said.
"Did I stretch correctly? Did I go in the ice bath? Did I do everything that I could to assist me and in being ready and fit to go to 100 per cent again the next day?
"And you kind of learn in that sense, you learn from your mistakes and it's also guided by the science."

Matty has been around the England cricket squad for a number of years and he appreciates the support and expertise within the set-up.
"We have a great team here [with England] that are on top of you as well, whether you need people to be on top of you to do things or whether you back yourself to know what's best for you," he said. "But my decision-making has evolved over a couple of years and I'm just trying to do the right things more consistently.
"It's like everything - if you do something unhealthy once in a blue moon, it's not going to have that much of an effect. But if you have exposure to it for a long period of time, it's different."
