"There was far better education around nutrition when I started playing for England." - Jason Roy
Jason Roy can pinpoint the exact moment that his approach to nutrition changed.
It came in 2014, when the explosive batter earned his first England cap for a T20 international against India. That was the first step on a memorable international career which included a famous World Cup triumph in 2019.
And it was that promotion into the England set-up which elevated Jason's thinking when it came to match preparation.
"My approach changed, drastically!" he told The Edge.
"I think there was a big switch between the run-of-the-mill county cricket and international level. You know, you're on the road, you're busy, you're finding it hard to kind of navigate your way around what to eat because sometimes you're tired, you're over-exerting yourself.
"Then you get to the international stage and it's like, right, I've actually got time now to really apply myself in a nutritional way, on a platform. So you're also educated far better [at that level].
"There were two or three nutritionists with England. You'd go up to Loughborough, you'd do big training days, and there'd be nutritionists there with all the bars, all the supplements and stuff like that, educating you.
"They'd say that this is for hydration. This is for better sleep. This is for this and this and this and this. So there was far better education around that when I started playing for England, and in turn I saw the benefits.
"Before tournaments, before series, before away series, we would often sit down and would have a camp as such. And nutrition would be part of the discussion, along with all the other bits we had to cover. But yeah, that was always part of the discussion leading into series and tours."
Jason has been using AG1 products over the past month, and you can see his first two video diaries here and here.
