According to data from ClassPass, Les Mills, and MindBody, strength training has officially overtaken HIIT, spinning, and reformer Pilates as the world’s fastest-growing fitness modality, with growth expected to accelerate in 2026.

The rise is attributed to:

- Longevity-focused training

- Improved understanding of muscle health

- A shift toward functional strength and injury resilience

- Increased female participation in barbell sports

Bryce Hastings, the head of research for Les Mills, said: "The evidence is overwhelming - strength training is the most effective intervention for metabolic health, long-term independence, and mental wellbeing.

"The public has finally caught up with the science."

This momentum is expected to drive new class formats, workplace strength initiatives, and hybrid digital programmes in the New Year.
