One of the most highly-rated opening batsmen of his generation, the tall right-hander has impressed for India on the biggest stage with his elegance and composure.

After scoring 1,033 first-class runs during his IPL breakthrough with Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2014, he opened for the India Test team for the first time, scoring his maiden international century at the MCG on Boxing Day.

Rahul flourished on his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 2016 too, scoring an unbeaten 100 off 115 balls to become the first Indian cricketer to score a century on his ODI debut.

Add the T20I century against West Indies later that year to his CV - an unbeaten 110 from just 51 balls - and Rahul had not only become the first player to score a T20I hundred while batting at No 4, he had also become the fastest batsman to score an international century across all three formats (20 innings, beating Ahmed Shehzad's 76 innings).

India's third-highest run scorer at the 2019 World Cup behind Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Rahul was named vice-captain for the ODI and T20I series against Australia the following year.

A knock of 129 at Lord's followed in 2021 on his return to Test cricket, while he was also India's highest run scorer at the T20 World Cup.

Rahul captained his country for the first time during their second Test against South Africa in January 2022, becoming India's 34th Test captain.
